ROSARIES
BLESSED -- Many
Catholics rely on the Rosary as a source of consolation
and support in difficult times, Archbishop John J. Myers
with Andrew P. Schafer, Director of the Catholic Cemeteries,
recently blessed several thousand Rosaries for use by
family members of loved ones buried in Catholic Cemeteries
in the Archdiocese. |
The
Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark meet the needs
of individuals and families at the time of death, burial and
throughout bereavement.
“By
setting aside a holy place of burial, we provide a fitting environment
for full liturgical celebrations. Just as in life, we believe
that in death the human body deserves to be treated with the
utmost respect and dignity. We also foster a type of remembering
that is enlightened by faith, and sees death as a bridge to
the Communion of Saints. Our bonds with the believing are not
broken by death,” explains Catholic Cemeteries Executive
Director Andrew P. Schafer.
Services offered by the Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese
of Newark are always seen as putting faith into action. Care
for the burial needs of the Catholic community, Schafer stresses,
“is a sacred trust.” Those who work for Catholic
Cemeteries, he adds “must be committed to supporting a
deepening faith in the families who experience a death.”
In explaining the mission of his department, Schafer makes several
points. “We will always put the needs of others first....our
passionate caring and optimism challenges us in the pursuit
of excellence and innovation.” Those who work for Catholic
Cemeteries, he emphaized, “must believe that what we do
is more than just a livelihood, it is a mission......trust,
respect and dignity will guide our every action.”
The sales coordinator, he goes on, “is considered to be
a direct representative of the Archbishop....it is of utmost
importance that the sales counselor exercise like-kind judgement
in all situations and put no pressure on a family at the time
of sale. The ultimate goal is to help the family get what they
want while making the process as compassionate and stress free
as possible.”
